PTW End of Season Squad Update – 2023/24

Just over a week after the conclusion of our 2023/24 campaign, supporters will have seen today that work is well underway on preparing for the new season.

Plenty of the players who were integral to the successful season just past have already committed to another year at Petershill Park.

Emma Lawton, Demi Falconer and Rebecca McAllister had already signed on over the past few weeks and they’ve been joined today by Rosie Slater, Cheryl McCulloch, Kodie Hay, Clare Docherty, Claire Adams, Rachel Donaldson, Carla Boyce, Imogen Longcake and Lucy Sinclair as Brian Graham ties down the nucleus of a very strong top flight squad.

Cara Henderson and Amy Bulloch remain in discussions with the club at the moment and Leah Robinson is set to return with the squad for pre-season initially.

As ever at this time of year, we will be saying goodbye to some players who have played an important part in the journey of our football club.

Namely, Linzi Taylor, Rachel Wright, Megan Robb, Vhairi Munro and Rosie McQuillan will be moving on this summer while Ava Easdon, Jenna Ferguson, Shona Cowan, Aimee Anderson and Megan Cunningham will be returning to their respective parent clubs.

First of all, Linzi Taylor leaves Partick Thistle to pursue a full-time opportunity elsewhere after a terrific two-and-a-half years in Red and Yellow. Having previously played in Cyprus and Iceland, Linzi has been a standout for the Jags whether she’s been deployed in central midfield or central defence. In total, she’s played 84 games and scored 13 goals including the opener in our Sky Sports Cup semi-final win over Hibernian; a never to be forgotten free-kick!

Rachel Wright moves on after one season with Brian Graham’s Jags. The young midfielder joined from Glasgow City last summer and has made nine appearances for Thistle in competitive action, going out on loan to Hamilton Accies in October.

Megan Robb made the step up to SWPL with Partick Thistle last July, arriving from Dryburgh Athletic following a trial period. The winger would go on to make play 10 games this term scoring two goals including a crucial winner against Motherwell at Petershill Park. She spent the latter part of the campaign on loan with fellow top flight side Dundee United.

Another player who joined the Jags last summer, Vhairi Munro arrived having most recently played for Renfrew Ladies in the SWF Championship. She made 11 appearances this season before heading out on loan to Livingston with her standout moment as a Thistle player coming at Firhill as she set up Emma Lawton for the team’s third goal in a 3-0 win over Hamilton. She picked up an injury while at Livingston and we all wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the pitch soon.

Former Scottish youth internationalist Rosie McQuillan made the move to Petershill Park from SWPL rivals Spartans in August of last year. The forward scored three goals this past season in 24 appearances including our second goal of the season in a 4-0 win over Dundee United.

The first of the returning loanees is goalkeeper Ava Easdon who heads back to Glasgow City. The 17-year-old made 17 appearances in her time at Thistle, playing her part in six clean sheets and earning her a call-up to the Scotland under 19s squad.

Also involved in the Scotland under 19s recently, Jenna Ferguson returns to Rangers this summer. Jenna played 24 times in total including 12 starts, making her debut for the Jags on the opening day of the league season against Dundee United.

Shona Cowan goes back to parent club Hearts at the end of her loan spell at Petershill Park where she played a total of 11 times after signing in October. Injuries disrupted Cowan’s rhythm as a Thistle player but she was still able to impress with her versatility and resilience during the time she did get on the pitch.

Wide midfielder Aimee Anderson is also going back to Hearts this summer having made 11 appearances in Thistle colours. The former Celtic youngster joined the club in January and made her debut on the day she signed, coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 win over Montrose at Links Park.

Finally, goalkeeper Megan Cunningham returns to Rangers following the conclusion of her second loan spell with Partick Thistle. Megan made 23 appearances for the Jags this season, taking her total up to 49 over her two temporary stints with the club. In those 49 games she’s been involved in 15 clean sheets including a crucial one in our Sky Sports Cup semi-final against Hibernian.

We would like to thank all our departing players for their efforts during their time at PTWFC and wish them all the best for the future.
