PTW End of Season Squad Update

Following an historic second season in SWPL for Partick Thistle Women’s FC, the management staff have been hard at work as they prepare for what will hopefully be an even more successful campaign for the team and the club.

A number of the players who helped us achieve last term’s top six finish have already committed again for 2023/24 with Rachel Donaldson the first to do so at the end of May.

Since then a slew of Jags have re-signed with the club – namely  Rosie Slater, Leah Robinson, Demi Falconer, Clare Docherty, Rebecca McGowan, Claire Adams, Amy Bulloch, Linzi Taylor, Imogen Longcake and Jordan McLintock.

Last season’s top scorer Cara Henderson had already agreed a deal with the club for the 23/24 season back in January meaning she will be looking to build on a mightily impressive debut season in red and yellow once pre-season begins.

Defender Cheryl McCulloch has also extended her stay at Thistle and will continue to work hard with our medical staff as she progresses towards a return from the long-term injury she sustained against Rangers earlier this year.

As well as welcoming back a number of players for the new season, we are also saying goodbye to a few this summer as Taylor, Fisher, Khym Ramsay, Lauren Grant, Freya Macdonald, Taylor McGlashan, Kim Murphy and Taylor Hamill all depart the club.

An experienced goalkeeper, Khym Ramsay joined the club in August of last year from Motherwell, making her debut in the opening day defeat against Hearts at the Oriam. She went on to make six total appearances last season.

Fellow ‘keeper Lauren Grant arrived at Petershill Park in August 2021 off the back of earning promotion to SWPL1 with Hamilton Accies and has gone on to make seven appearances in Thistle colours, latterly spending time on loan with Queen’s Park. After picking up an injury playing for Queens Park she will continue to have the support of club medical staff during her recovery.

Freya Macdonald made her first Thistle appearance as a trialist in December 2020 before officially signing on a loan deal from Rangers in May 2021. The full-back became a fully-fledged PTWFC player ahead of the 21/22 campaign and made history quickly as she scored the club’s first winning goal in the top flight, against Motherwell. Freya leaves the club having made 51 appearances including 34 starts.

Taylor Fisher joined the club in January 2022 from Glasgow City and went on to make 29 appearances and scored two goals, both this season. Including an important penalty away at Aberdeen as we claimed our first point of the 2022/23 season with a 2-2 draw.

As already announced, Taylor McGlashan is calling time on her spell at Partick Thistle and leaves as our longest-serving player. McGlashan joined the club when we were in SWFL Division 1 and has been an integral part of the team and the dressing room in her six seasons since as the club has rocketed up the leagues. Injury problems meant she was only able to make eight appearances in her final campaign as a Jag but her legacy was already firmly cemented at PTWFC. After picking up an injury in her last game as a Jag, Taylor will continue to be supported by the club medical staff.

Taylor Hamill signed with the club last January after impressing on trial and would end up playing 13 times before the season’s end including eight starts. The midfielder’s standout moment for Thistle came in the quarter-finals of the Biffa Scottish Women’s Cup as she scored the second goal en route to a 4-2 win over Hibernian.

Another hugely influential member of the Thistle dressing room Kim Murphy has decided to retire from senior football following a remarkable career. Having previously been at Hamilton Accies and Kilmarnock among others, Kim joined the Jags in late 2020 and played 13 times as Thistle finished third in SWPL2. Despite some trepidation about making the step up to SWPL1, the left-back has gone on to play 42 times in the top flight as she’s gone toe-to-toe with the country’s best wide players.

Finally, we also say goodbye to Abbie Ferguson whose loan spell from Celtic came to an end when the season finished. She has since signed for Hibernian on a full time contract and we are proud to have played a big part in her development. The striker scored five goals and provided eight assists in 27 appearances as a Jag scoring the first of her goals for the club in an 8-1 win over Glasgow Women at New Tinto Park. Her club from earned her a call-up to the Scotland under-19s squad leading to a five-goal haul against Liechtenstein in April.

We would like to thank all our departing players for their efforts during their time at PTWFC and wish them all the best for the future.
