March 2023 will forever be remembered as a huge month in the history of Partick Thistle Women’s FC. Clinching a top six spot and guaranteeing the club’s highest ever league finish represents another incredible step forward in the PTWFC journey which started less than 10 years ago.
Each and every player played their part but there were a few standout performers as we made a strong finish to the pre-split campaign by beating Aberdeen and Dundee United before losing narrowly to Hearts in our opening top six fixture.
As such, it’s time to pick one of our four nominees for the PTWFC March Player of the Month award:
Amy Bulloch
With midfield stalwart Rebecca McGowan out injured for the majority of the month, Amy Bulloch’s role in the middle of the park became even more important to the Jags during March. Starting all four games, the number 14’s best display came in our crucial game against Dundee United at Gussie Park when she helped the team control the game and minimise the pressure Thistle’s defence came under en route to a clean sheet and a win.
Abbie Ferguson
The club history made this month wasn’t all to do with the top six, there was also some international ground-breaking being done as Abbie Ferguson became the first PTWFC player to receive a call-up when she was named in the Scotland under-19s squad. That recognition came following a slew of impressive performances in red and yellow which most recently included the assist for the match-winning goal against Dundee United.
Cara Henderson
With 16 total goal involvements so far this season, Cara Henderson hasn’t been shy of a telling contribution or two, however, few of her goals have been as important as the pair she got in March. Firstly, netting the equaliser against Aberdeen at Petershill Park as Thistle came from 2-0 down to win 4-3 and then scoring the solitary goal in the City of Discovery as Brian Graham’s side clinched a top six place.
Linzi Taylor
The final two games of the pre-split season could have looked very different had it not been for some magic from the right boot of Linzi Taylor. With Thistle trailing 2-0 against Aberdeen at Petershill Park, the midfielder fired a free-kick into the top corner to spark a comeback which would set the Jags up perfectly for their final day heroics in Dundee.
