Now that the 2024/25 season has drawn to a close for Partick Thistle Women’s FC, we can reflect on a campaign that has been littered with spectacular strikes and magnificent moves.
Whether it be a well-built team effort or a solo stunner, there have been plenty of moments that have gotten fans out of their seats but now it’s time to decide which one has been the pick of the bunch as we select the PTWFC Goal of the Season, sponsored by The Jags Foundation!
The nominees are:
Goal A – TIREE BURCHILL v Spartans
One of Thistle’s marquee signings from last summer, Tiree Burchill made a positive impression early on by bagging her first Jags goal in her second competitive start for the club. Finding space at the edge of the Spartans box, the number 23 sent a looping left-footed volley soaring into the far corner of the net – a goal that would go on to win the SWPL’s Goal of the Month for August.
Goal B – HANNAH ROBINSON v Motherwell
One of the Jags’ best performances of the season also produced one of their best goals as Hannah Robinson netted the second in a 4-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park. A miskicked clearance by the ‘Well goalkeeper was controlled by Amy Bulloch and distributed to Robinson who took one touch before lobbing the ball over a retreating Emily Mutch and into the bet via the underside of the crossbar.
Goal C – CALEY GIBB v Queen’s Park
This deadlock-breaking effort from Caley Gibb was a prime example of an inspired substitution and an excellent team goal. Sent on shortly after the second half restart, it took Caley just two minutes to get herself on the scoresheet as she received the ball on the right sideline from Imogen Longcake, played a one-two with Tiree Burchill and then fired low across goal into the bottom corner.
Goal D – CARA HENDERSON v Hibernian
A point again the eventual champions is nothing to be sniffed at and that’s exactly what Thistle got when they visited Meadowbank in November thanks to a Cara Henderson screamer. Lucy Sinclair stole the ball from Ciara Grant five yards outside the Hibs box and Carla Boyce laid in on to Henderson who didn’t think twice about rifling a terrific right-footed shot into the net from 20 yards out.
Goal E – CARLA BOYCE v Celtic
Another example of good pressing being rewarded, it was Rachel Donaldson’s hassling that earned possession in the Celtic half in Thistle’s opening game of 2025. Her touch took it to Carla Boyce who spied the ‘keeper off her line and duly floated it into the Celtic goal – her seventh of the campaign at that point.
Goal F – HANNAH ROBINSON v Spartans
A late entry to the field, Hannah Robinson might have saved her best for last as she struck with an incredible volley on the final day of the 2024/25 season against her former club Spartans. In the second phase of a corner kick, the ball was kept alive over and over again by Demi Falconer and Rachel Donaldson before it eventually fell to Robinson just outside the box. The winger took aim and lasered a first-time hit into the top corner to put the Jags in front in Edinburgh.
