PTWFC make it three wins on the bounce

Two wins in a row became three wins in a row yesterday afternoon when Thistle ended Aberdeen’s 100% record in spectacular fashion; The Jags running out emphatic 5-1 winners and climbing up to second in the league in the process.

For the third week in a row Thistle had to come from behind to claim the win although Aberdeen’s opener in the 22nd minute was very much against the run of play.

It took Thistle until just before the interval to draw level but Jade Gallon’s equaliser was worth the wait. Jade collected the ball inside her own half before racing clear of the Aberdeen defence and shooting home for the first of many excellent goals Thistle would score during the course of the game.

A smart save from Nicolle Andrews seconds before the half-time whistle ensured that the scores were level at the interval.

After turning round with the scores level it took Thistle just four minutes of the second half to establish a two goal lead.

The first was a superb team goal starting with Bryony Ross and involving Sophie Gallacher before new signing Cara McBrearty set up Clare Docherty who provided the finish with a sublime back heel.

Docherty collected an assist for the third goal slipping a neat pass through to Sophie Gallacher who held off the attentions of an Aberdeen defender before scoring a richly deserved goal.

After that burst of action, Thistle had to wait until the 61st minute before scoring a fourth. There was another assist for Clare Docherty who got the ball through to Cheryl Rigden at the left hand corner of the box and although the Aberdeen keeper could get a hand to her shot she couldn’t keep the ball out after some very neat skill by the midfielder.

The scoring was completed with just two minutes of the game remaining and it was Gallon this time that supplied the assist, her perfectly weighted pass finding the trialist in the Aberdeen box and she confidently lifted the ball beyond the keeper and into the net.
