All at Partick Thistle were extremely saddened to learn of the passing of Thistle supporter Robert James “Spike” McMahon at the age of 58.
Born in July 1963, a time where Thistle sides entertained across the country, it didn’t take long for Spike to get the Thistle bug when he was taken along to his first game at the age of 8 or 9. It was a family affair with Robert’s uncle Jim introducing him to the customs of the terracing within Firhill Stadium.
A Thistle supporter for life, Robert followed the Club over land and sea and was a regular on a number of supporters’ buses throughout the decades. He was a stalwart on the Bishopbriggs bus that ran before latterly moving onto the City Centre bus following Thistle everywhere from Peterhead to Stranraer.
Robert took unwell earlier this year and after a short battle with illness he passed away on June 2nd 2022, at the age of 58.
Spike was a friend to many in Scottish football, not just supporters of Thistle and he will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege to know him wearing red and yellow proudly every Saturday.
The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with Robert’s family and friends at this sad time.
