Tommy Robson had only started once in the first two months of 2020 but was recalled to the starting XI last Tuesday as Partick Thistle took on Queen of the South. The full-back put in an impressive display and retained his spot for the weekend’s trip to Dundee United where he performed well again. Now, Tommy is hoping his good personal form can help the team get back to winning ways as Dunfermline visit Maryhill for a midweek Championship clash. Robson spoke to ptfc.co.uk ahead of the fixture against the Pars:
“Looking back on the game at Tannadice and seeing some of the chances we created, I think we’re all still a bit disappointed we didn’t get all three points but with the position we’re in, you have to go out there and take those chances which we didn’t manage to do.”
With the Jags propping up the league table, not many would have backed them to take anything from Robbie Nielson’s Tangerines, however, Robson felt the Maryhill men acquitted themselves very well in the match.
“I don’t think it looked like top against bottom, to be honest. In this league that does tend to be the case though; there are usually quite a lot of upsets over the course of the season. It was just a point in the end but I think we have to look at it as a good point.”
Now, Ian McCall’s side have back-to-back home games this week starting with the visit of Dunfermline Athletic and Tommy knows the team have to turn these games into wins.
“These games are massive. I was in a similar position with Falkirk last season but there I think we always had it in our heads that we were going to be alright which wasn’t the case. The boys here know that we need to get results quickly and there’s a real belief that we can get them.
“We’ve started the month with two draws and, although we feel we could have got more points on the board, performance-wise it’s been a lot better. Now with two home games in a row, we know this is when we need to be getting wins.”
Robson came back in from the start last Tuesday, grasping that opportunity with both hands and he says he’s loved being back out there on the pitch.
“It’s great to be playing again and be back playing in my natural position. As the wing-back, I’ve got that license to go forward a bit and I’ve really enjoyed that role in the two games so far this month and hopefully I can stay in the team from now on.
“I think you can see a good defensive unit there at the moment. We’re not being opened up easily and getting that first clean sheet in the league was a nice bonus last Tuesday. At the other end, we’ve created a lot of chances and I think when we get one goal, we’ll get a few.”
