The league points continued to stack up for Mark Wilson’s Partick Thistle during September with the second month of the Championship campaign proving to be a hugely successful one.
It started with a come-from-behind victory over Airdrieonians in front of the BBC Scotland cameras at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill before a bit of something different as the Jags hosted Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals, the Hoops winning the game 4-0.
That didn’t derail the Maryhill Men though and on their return to league duty they were 2-0 winners at KDM East End Park against Dunfermline, following that up with another away win and clean sheet three days later against Queen’s Park.
Now, with October’s slate of fixtures already underway, it’s time to decide which of the following nominees deserves the Seven Wealth Player of the Month award for September:
Josh Clarke

Featuring in three of the team’s four games last month, Clarke conceded just once as he earned his first two Championship clean sheets in Thistle colours. His standout moment of September came at Dunfermline when he was called into action during the game’s opening exchanges shortly after Tony Watt’s opener. Rory MacLeod teed Chris Kane up with an opportunity to level the scores almost immediately, but Clarke was out sharply to deny the veteran frontman and set Thistle on their way to a comfortable victory.
Clarke also remained calm in the closing stages at The city Stadium as he rose and clutched a dangerous looking set-piece deep into added on time.
Ben McPherson

Josh’s fellow Celtic loanee Ben McPherson also played in three of four games during September as he was ineligible to face his parent club in the Premier Sports Cup. He displayed value at both ends of the pitch last month, firstly going forward against Airdrieonians with his cross being the one that eventually fell to Alex Samuel for the winner. Subsequently, his defensive talent and strong running was needed against Queen’s Park when he had to play on both sides of the rearguard to help his side secure a vital clean sheet and win.
Dan O’Reilly

Twice a Player of the Month award winner last season, Dan receives his first nomination of the new campaign thanks to a stellar month of football in the heart of the Thistle defence. Indeed, had it not been for O’Reilly’s equalising header in the 77th minute against Airdrieonians, September mightn’t ever have got started for the men in red and yellow. He followed that crucial contribution with fine performances against Celtic, Dunfermline and Queen’s Park; helping the team to shutouts in the latter two.
Tony Watt

Tony’s first three Jags goals had all come at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill but it was on the road that the striker made his mark during September. Just 50 seconds into Thistle’s clash with Dunfermline at KDM Group East End Park the former Dundee United man was on hand to fire home from a knock down in the Pars box, getting his side off to an ideal start in Fife. It wasn’t quite as quick against Queen’s Park in the following game but his header after seven minutes proved to be the winner at The city Stadium and it also moved his tally for the season to five.
