Partick Thistle can today confirm the signing of Daniel O’Reilly, subject to Scottish FA approval.
The 28-year-old centre half joins the club signing a contract until May 2025 following his recent contract expiry at Raith Rovers.
Daniel began his career in his native Republic of Ireland, before moving to London to join Fulham’s youth set up, spending four years in London developing his trade. At the age of 20, Dan returned to Ireland gaining first team football with Bray Wanderers.
Following moves between various clubs on the Emerald Isle, he picked up Drogheda United’s 2020/2021 Player of the Season award earning a move across the Irish Sea to Hamilton Academical. An almost ever present in the Accies side, the Irishman was part of the squad which lifted the SPFL Trust Trophy.
More recently, Dan has been with Raith Rovers on a short term deal since November featuring seven times, netting three goals in his short spell at Kirkcaldy. Daniel has now put pen to paper on a Thistle contract until 2025.
Daniel will wear number 20 for the rest of the 2023/24 season.
Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:
“We’re delighted to pick up a player of such quality in the notoriously difficult January transfer window. He is proven at this level and adds real quality to our squad. Getting Daniel tied down on an 18 month contract is fantastic for us as we look to build for the end of the current campaign and into the next.
“We identified that we needed defensive cover as Nathan McGinley went back to Motherwell following his loan spell, and to be able to get Daniel in the building so quickly shows our ambition to challenge at the top end of the table.
“As a team who aim to score as many goals as we can, Daniel adds quality in both boxes, having already scored at against us this season, and twice last season.
“It has been as busy month already for us with plenty of comings and goings, as well as two matches. Daniel adds strength to our defensive options as we head into a tough run of fixtures.”
