Slater delighted to progress

Craig Slater was happy to help Thistle though to the Semi Final of the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup.

The midfielder came into the team for his first start of the season and capped it with his first goal of the campaign. Craig was just delighted to get Thistle into the hat for the next round.

Speaking to ptfc.co.uk he said: “The main thing was to get through to the next round and we’ve managed to do that. We knew coming into the game it was going to be tough, but it was all about doing what we needed to do to get into the semi final.”

Slater knew the team couldn’t take their eye off the ball, as was proved when the home side equalised in the second half.

“We were a bit slack for a period in the second half and paid the price when they got back into it, but we were able after that to show our quality and it was good to run out comfortable winners in the end.”

“We can’t take anyone likely, we had to make sure we stayed professional and put everything into it and I think we did that. They wanted that semi-final place too and thankfully we’ve got ourselves through.”

The Jags number 17 started his first game of the season and scored the third Jags goal to take the tie beyond Stenhousemuir. He was delighted after the game with his contribution.

“It was great to get a full game after injury; it has been frustrating to miss games but delighted to be back and I’m feeling great.

“It was even better to get the goal, that really capped it off. That’s one start, one goal so I’ll take that record. Hopefully I can add to that now.

“It was all about getting through however so I’m glad we managed to do that too.”

The draw for the next round takes place on Wednesday and Craig is excited to be involved but admits focus will be on Penicuik Athletic in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

“It’s exciting to get through to the semi-final, we look forward to it now! However, we put that to the back of our minds and look forward to the next game, it’s another cup game and another game we have to make sure we focus on.

“We’ll get back to work and be ready for next week and look to build on the momentum.”
