Slater: It’s up to us to change things

It was another disappointing defeat as Thistle lost 1-0 to Ayr United at the Energy Check Stadium at Firhill.

Craig Slater knows it wasn’t good enough and admits the players have to start recording positive results.

Speaking to ptfc.co.uk after the game he said: “We are disappointed. I feel it’s the same old story every week. We can’t keep saying the same things every week, that’s not good enough.

“Something has to turn and change, we have to start putting points on the board.”

Despite having large spells of possession and control of the game there was a lack of chances in the final third and Slater is aware that has to be better

“We had a lot of the ball but when we have those spells of pressure we need to put the ball in the net. We didn’t create enough and goals change games. If you don’t score when you are top you allow the other team into the game and they punish you like Ayr did today.

“We were so slack from a set piece again and gifted them their goal. I feel we always have to work so hard for our chances and just gift the other team their goals.”

Craig felt for the fans who had come out to support the team

“It’s disappointing the fans come out to support you and we didn’t get them anything to cheer about.

“We showed decent enough spells but we need the points, we have to stick together and go into each game fighting. No game is easy. We have another tough game next week.

“We have to go into training this week. We have to work hard and look to next week now.”

The midfielder knows the players have to be the ones who change the fortunes around.

“The new manager has come in and everyone is working hard but it shouldn’t matter who is in charge, the players have a responsibility to work hard and have a bit of self pride.

“No one wants to be down the bottom of the league, I certainly don’t and I know the boys are hurting but only we can put things right and start to climb up the table. It’s up to us to turn things around”
