Sneddon looking to take confidence from Saturday

Thistle fans are reminded that Tuesday night’s game will kick off at 7pm.

After two weeks away, Partick Thistle return to Firhill this week for part one of a midweek double-header in Maryhill. The Jags won convincingly at Peterhead on Saturday thanks to goals from Joe Cardle, Scott Tiffoney and Brian Graham and now look to build on that triumph against Clyde. The Bully Wee were 1-0 winners when the sides met earlier in the season, however, find themselves five places and seven points behind the Jags ahead of the return fixture. Thistle ‘keeper Jamie Sneddon, who kept his first league clean sheet of the season at the weekend, spoke to ptfc.co.uk ahead of Tuesday’s game:

“It’s another big one and we’re looking to put a run together now after a good victory at the weekend. We knew this was going to be huge week for us and we got off to an ideal start at Peterhead so we need to now follow that up with a result against Clyde.

“At this stage of the season momentum can play a big part. When you’ve got games in such quick succession, if you can get into the rhythm of winning then the frequency of the games becomes a good thing. Hopefully everyone takes confidence from Saturday and we can pick up where we left off.”

The clash with Clyde represents a game in hand on the teams immediately surrounding us and Jamie says it is crucial that we take advantage of this opportunity to get more points on the board.

“The fixtures are running out and we’ve still got ground to make up so every game is vital. This game in hand is a huge chance for us to close the gap on the teams above us so it’s up to us to go and get the three points.”

Sneddon has returned to the starting line-up with Kieran Wright unavailable through injury and he says he’s enjoyed his game time as of late.

“It’s just been a case of doing my best for the team when called upon. It’s a shame that Kieran’s picked up his injury because he’s had such a good season but I’ve kept myself ready and I’ve been pleased with the last couple of games.

“Getting the clean sheet at the weekend was big for us because we’ve conceded a few more goals than we would have liked since we’ve come back but hopefully we can use that as the foundation for a solid end to the season defensively.”

The busy schedule of games has required an element of rotation in the team including the defence but Sneddon feels the depth of the squad means Thistle should be able to rotate without sacrificing defensive solidity or attacking zeal.

“We’ve got a very good squad now and that means, for me in particular, I have confidence in whoever the manager picks to play across that back four. With the amount of matches we have to play at the moment, changes are needed to avoid injuries especially when you look at this spell where we have Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday; it’s tough but it’s a challenge everyone is facing at the moment.”

Jamie was a standout performer when we last faced Clyde and the number one knows we’ll have to perform better as a team to secure the victory this time around.

“I remember that game well because it was the last one before my injury. I was very busy and had to make a few saves so we already know first-hand how dangerous they can be. It was a long time ago now and both squads have changed a bit but we can still learn lessons from that game.

“If we can continue to attack the way we have been in recent weeks and add the defensive side of things to that as we did at Peterhead then we’ll have a really good of taking three points.”
