Spittal hoping to build momentum

Blair Spittal helped change the game in Thistle’s favour against Dundee and now the winger is hoping to help make it two wins in four days in what he is calling a crucial week

Thistle travel to Hamilton and Blair wants the win on Saturday to act as a spark for the rest of the season.

Speaking to ptfc.co.uk he said: “We know how crucial this week is. We got the first win against Dundee on Saturday, that takes a weight off the shoulders but we now need to take that into Hamilton. We have to put a run together now.

“It’s perfect having the game so soon after when we are full of confidence. It’s important we don’t get too carried away, we enjoy the win but we make sure we work hard for the match against Hamilton.”

The players were back in on Sunday and Spittal knows recovery is important ahead of the game.

“With such a short space between the games it’s important we recover well. We were in for recovery on the Sunday after the game and we’ve got ourselves ready to go again.”

While he knows the win against Dundee wasn’t fully deserved, Blair knows how big momentum can be if it leads on to three points against Hamilton

“We were lucky to get the win against Dundee, we know that. They missed a lot of chances and maybe luck was on our side. We needed that bit of luck and finding a way to win and hopefully that is us on our way now.”

“Momentum is massive, that can swing quickly so we need to make sure we capitalise on that and build. The Dundee result doesn’t mean much if we don’t go on and build on it

The Jags number 7 started the Dundee match on the bench but made a big impact when he came on. He is hoping to have played himself into the side for the match against Hamilton.

“When you come off the bench you want to make an impact and I think I managed to do that. I was obviously disappointed not to start the game but the performance in the last two, I knew I couldn’t complain. You have to go out and try and do something when you come on and you could see the game changing in our favour.”

A win against Hamilton takes Thistle off the foot of the table and Spittal knows it’s a big incentive.

“It’s a massive carrot for us that we know a win will take us off the foot of the table. We know how important this week is and we can be looking in a much better position after it. We are aware what we have to do and we now need to go do it.”
