The winner of the inaugural Seven Wealth Player of the Month award is Ben Stanway after an excellent run of performances during August for the Partick Thistle Youth Academy graduate.
Starting off the month on the bench at McDiarmid Park, the 20-year-old was brought into the starting XI the following week against Greenock Morton at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill.
At half-time against the Ton, Stanway moved into a deeper midfield role and it’s in that position where he has excelled over the subsequent fixtures, showcasing his ball-winning sixth sense and quality in possession.
Despite being stationed at the base of the midfield, Ben has still had an effect going forward with his standout moment of the month coming at Dingwall as he fired in a wondergoal from range to open the scoring against Ross County.
He was also heavily involved in the opener against Raith Rovers with his lofted ball setting Aidan Fitzpatrick on his way down the left channel, allowing the winger to pick out Tony Watt for a sliding finish.
Upon receiving the award, Ben said:
“We finished August very strongly after a disappointing start to the month which I think says a lot about the character of the team we have here. We feel like we’ve got a bit of momentum now but we have to work hard to keep it going in September.
“On a personal note, I’m happy to be in the team at the moment and I’ve been enjoying the sitting role in midfield. It’s definitely a bit of a different perspective; you see more of the game and get more touches but also have to be disciplined in your positioning.
“As for the attacking side of things, that goal at County is something I want to be doing more of. The coaches are always encouraging me to trust my shot from outside the box and it obviously came off that day so hopefully there’s more of that to come this season.”
