Partick Thistle legend Steven Lawless has left the club by mutual consent.
With 358 appearances and 49 goals competitively here across two spells, Lawless is a modern-day Jags great who has given nine-and-a-half seasons of exceptional service to the club.
Signed by Jackie McNamara from Motherwell in the summer of 2012, Steven arrived in Maryhill as a relative unknown having played the majority of his football to that point while on loan with Albion Rovers but his impact on the Thistle first team was instant.

A goal in his second competitive game for the club at Forfar in the League Cup was followed by scoring the team’s first goal of the First Division season at home to Falkirk and the only goal of the game in our second league match; away to Dunfermline.
He finished that debut campaign with 14 goals in all competitions as the club won the league title and returned to the top flight of Scottish football for the first time in a decade.

The winger bagged a double against Ross County in August 2013 when Thistle earned their first win back in the Premiership, indicative of his continued importance to the side as they made the step up to the top level.
He departed Firhill in 2018 to join Livingston having played 228 times and scored 35 goals in six seasons with two years in Lothian preceding spells at Burton Albion, Motherwell and Dunfermline Athletic before Ian McCall convinced him to come back to Maryhill for a second stint in red and yellow in 2022.
Harkening back to his first stay with the club, Lawless re-introduced himself with a goal on the opening day of the league season as he netted the second in a 3-2 win over Dundee at Dens Park.

He would finish the 2022/23 campaign with eight goals and eight assists, playing regularly as Thistle finished fourth in the Championship and fell just short of promotion in the play-offs.
Lawless was instrumental again the following season with five goals and ten assists on his record at the start of April, however, an Achilles rupture in a league match against Dunfermline ruled him out for the rest of the campaign and beyond.
His much-anticipated return from injury came in November 2024 when he came on as a second half substitute against Hamilton Accies, playing 15 further games before the season’s end.
This term the 34-year-old has made 24 appearances in total, including four starts, and scored one goal – a penalty in a 3-1 win over Ross County in August.

In July 2025, Steven was awarded a testimonial to recognise his service to Partick Thistle Football Club with a plethora of events held to support it including a dinner at The Grand Central Hotel and a testimonial match at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill.
Lawless leaves the club having imparted countless unforgettable memories on the Thistle faithful from his first goal at Station Park to his late equaliser against Dunfermline on trophy day, from the double at Dingwall to the screamer at McDiarmid Park, from a hat-trick of assists against Queen’s Park to the Friday night brace at Somerset – his legacy in Maryhill won’t fade quickly.
From everyone here at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill, thank you Stevie and best of luck for the future.
