Partick Thistle FC is delighted to announce that Steven Lawless has signed a two-year contract extension, taking his deal with the club up to summer 2026, subject to Scottish FA clearance.
Our number 11 puts pen to paper as he closes in on 300 appearances and 50 goals for the Jags across two hugely successful spells in Maryhill.
The winger first joined the club in 2012 as a relative unknown signed after departing Motherwell, however, 14 goals in his debut season for the club as we won the First Division title ensured that he didn’t stay unknown for long.
Stevie continued to contribute to the red and yellow cause during our subsequent five seasons in the Scottish Premiership with his standout moments including vital winners against Inverness and Motherwell at Firhill as well as a sensational volley in a victory at McDiarmid Park.
Departing in 2018, Lawless had stints with Livingston, Burton Albion, Motherwell and Dunfermline before coming home ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
His first season back saw him play 49 times to the tune of eight goals and eight assists, finishing the season having created the second most chances of any player in the squad. That creative form has carried on into the new season with five goals and eight assists to his name already having featured in all 19 of our matches so far in all competitions.
Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:
“I’m really happy that Stevie has signed a new deal here at Thistle because I see him as a hugely important part of our team. He’s so creative with the ball at his feet and is the type of player who puts the opposition on the back foot which is what I want.
“I obviously had the pleasure of playing with Stevie for a number of years and I absolutely loved it but I think he’s possibly better now than he’s ever been. The way he sees the game is remarkable and it’s definitely not something that comes easily – he’s developed that over a number of years playing at a great level.
“He picks out some unbelievable passes and that comes down to great vision as well as outstanding technical ability. I’m looking forward to seeing plenty more from him in Thistle colours.”
