Partick Thistle are delighted to confirm that Stuart Bannigan has signed a contract extension, committing himself to the club until the summer of 2022.
It’s been almost ten years since Stuart was handed his Jags debut, as a 17-year-old, by Ian McCall and throughout the last decade the Jags number eight has been instrumental in the heart of the Jags engine room.
The popular midfielder spent time out on loan with Ayr United to develop his trade, before arriving back to Firhill in the summer of 2011 and quickly establishing himself as a first team regular. Stuart’s talent was recognised at international level, winning caps for Scotland at under-21 level as he continued to improve on a weekly basis.
When Thistle were promoted into the Premiership in the summer of 2013, Banzo took the top level of Scottish football like a duck to water and continued to impress on the highest footballing stage in Scotland. An injury picked up in March 2016 saw Stuart undergo a long, gruelling rehabilitation but he has now returned to full fitness and is, arguably, playing the best football of his career to date.
An on-form Stuart Bannigan is a player that is very highly rated by Ian McCall and his management team and everyone at the club is thrilled that he has extended his stay in Maryhill until 2022.
The contract will take Stuart to more than ten years of Thistle service, taking him to a testimonial season in 2021/22
Stuart spoke to JagZone shortly after putting pen to paper on his contract extension. JagZone subscribers can view it now.
