The 2026 International Lava Cup to be held at Partick Thistle Charitable Trust’s Petershill Park

PETERSHILL PARK, GLASGOW: THE HOST VENUE FOR THE 2026 INTERNATIONAL LAVA CUP

Marc Boal, Lava Cup Organiser, said: “We are delighted to announce the 2026 Lava Cup will be held at Petershill Park next May. The facilities, environment and playing surface at Petershill Park is fantastic, we look forward to working alongside Partick Thistle Charitable Trust hosting the event.”

“I would like to thank Fraser Cromar, for all his help and support with our senior grassroots initiative, which will see teams from all over the world descend on Petershill Park next May. Furthermore, the Lava Cup hospitality reception in the evening will take place at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill – the home ground of Partick Thistle Football Club.

Playing international football is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of us; players aged 40 to 75 are now doing this! The new friendships, bonding, and well-being it creates are providing a pathway to actively change the way people think and, more importantly, change lives. At the same time, we are also raising funds for local charities in the Springburn community.”

Supporting Senior Grassroots Football at the Lava Cup

The Lava Cup is an annual seven-a-side football tournament for players over 40, is held at venues around Scotland. Established to support men dealing with various physical and mental health-related issues, the tournament has grown significantly since its inception.

The 2025 event featured 20 teams from across the globe, including participants from USA, Iceland, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Denmark, Isle of Lewis, Scotland and England. The tournament also provides a remote access delivery – inviting at least two teams from remote areas around Scotland with no access to senior football and giving them a chance to play on the big stage at the Lava Cup.

Fraser Cromar, CEO of Partick Thistle Charitable Trust, added: “It gives me great pleasure to confirm that Petershill Park will be the home of the Lava cup tournament for 2026.”

“We have invested heavily in the facilities and playing surface here at Partick Thistle Charitable Trust, which allows us the opportunity to host great events like this. The Lava Cup is an innovative football tournament which shares similar core values to our own, one of which is using the power of football to break down barriers whilst promoting a healthier lifestyle, it is also a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge with a network of like-minded teams and organisations from all over the globe.”

“Personally, I have followed the tournament over the last two years at Falkirk stadium, living locally I know the benefits the cup has made to the community by providing much needed publicity and money to local good causes.”

“Partick Thistle Charitable Trust have recently started our over 40’s team and I cannot wait to see them out on the pitch wearing the red and yellow of Thistle against teams from all over the world!”
