A new PTFC supporters club ‘branch’ has formed following a debut visit to the Wyre Stadium at Firhill by a quintet of travelling football fans – all the way from Essex.
In tribute to their late friend Billy Frew, an Essex-based diehard Jag, the five-strong contingent decided to take in Partick Thistle v Raith Rovers in style as part of a longer weekend in Glasgow to take in the UCI Cycling World Championships.
Such was their enjoyment they have formed the club’s latest unofficial supporters’ group and committed to making a return to the Maryhill Mecca in the future.
As they appear left to right in the picture alongside captain Brian Graham and man of the match Aidan Fitzpatrick, as chosen by match sponsor Clydebuilt Home Improvements, the Essex five are: John (bad boy) Barter, Ryan Barter, Paul Nicholas, Glenn Harrington and Russel Ashby.
They enjoyed the full Firhill hospitality experience with a welcome drink, Kris Doolan interview, two course meal, inclusive bar, Q&A with former player Davie Elliott, a visit from Kingsley, padded seat view of the game, half-time snacks and 50/50 draw before post-match presentations and interviews with Brian and Aidan.
Following their visit, Glenn said: “A big thank you to all at PTFC for the warm welcome that we received at the club last Saturday. We travelled up from Essex to Glasgow for the cycling world championships but also to visit the Firhill Stadium in memory of Billy Frew who moved down from Glasgow to Essex many years ago but remained an avid supporter of the Jags.
“It was a memorable day despite the late goals! The hospitality, food and matchday experience in the Alan Rough lounge was exceptional but what really made the day was the people! Brian, Yvonne and Allan in particular went out of their way to make our day special.
“The draw was obviously disappointing, but I was impressed by the attacking style of football that Thistle played. On that evidence you should have a successful season.
“The Essex branch of the PTFC supporters club has been formed and we shall keep a close eye on your results and hope to make a return visit in the near future.”
