It’s matchday as we take a break from league football. The Jags, still dealing with last week’s disappointing defeat to Hearts, now host Livingston in their SkySports cup match at Petershill Park.
With the squad back in training, the importance of this fixture has not been lost on the players.
Kate Fraser addressed the media to discuss the team’s spirit and morale ahead of the tie.
““We are really excited, we know Livingston are a good side, so we are working really hard in training. We are really excited for it”.
A campaign that will live long in the memory of any Partick Thistle supporter would be their historic Sky Sports cup campaign in the 23/24 season, where the Jags were defeated in the final by Rangers.
With recent history in mind, Fraser spoke on the excitement the squad holds, ahead of an imperative tie.
“We are looking for a good performance first of all, but you know, one step at a time, but progressing through the cup as far as we possibly can. So hopefully we can bring the crowd. These are the type of games as a player you want to play in”.
Assistant Craig Potter clarified the importance of pushing recent league form aside, ahead of the game.
““It is just a different focus. It has been a tough start to the league and the season. This is a fresh week where we can focus on one game, which can take us to the quarter-final. Then we can regroup again and focus on what is happening in the league.
“Sometimes it is a relief from that constant pressure of the league and something just a bit different. It is a good difference, a new team, and a different challenge. But probably a good opportunity as well. It is a good chance to get to a quarter-final, which is exciting”.
The visitors sit 7th in the SWPL 2. Having only won 1 of their 6 league matches. But a cup win against East Fife, finds the away side travelling to Petershill. Where the two clubs will meet for the first time in their history.
Kick-off is at 1pm at Petershill Park
