Thistle’s City of Glasgow Cup campaign continued last night with a closed doors clash with Queen’s Park at Lesser Hampden. The Jags and the Spiders played out a 1-1 draw on a chilly night in the Southside of Glasgow.
Thistle started the brighter side and had the first major action of the game when the returning Shea Gordon picked out a fantastic run from Darian MacKinnon with a floated cross, but Queen’s stopper, Heraghty managed to claw it behind for a corner.
The Jags did end up taking the lead through Jamie Barjonas as half time drew close. The Rangers loanee took a free kick wide of the box which decieved the goalkeeper, sneaking in at the far post to give Thistle the lead.
The second half was a very open affair with the Spiders lucky not to go down to ten men when Creag Little wiped out Mitch Austin as the Australian winger raced down the line. The anger of the Jags team was clear to see as referee, Graham Grainger, flashed a yellow card in the direction of the central defender.
Queen’s had a goal ruled, correctly, out for offside before Foy bundled home the equaliser from close range. Thistle came close through Austin’s volley from the edge of the box before Galasso had a strong shout for a penalty waved away as both sides had to settle for a point.
Thistle Team: Sneddon, Renfrew, Robson, McIntyre, Niang, MacKinnon(Lyon), Gordon(Watson), Barjonas(McDonald), Lyons(Owens), Jones(Galasso), Austin.
Highlights of the encounter will be available on JagZone later today.
Thistle’s next City of Glasgow CupĀ match is against Clyde on Tuesday 25th February at Broadwood Stadium with an 8:15pm kick off. Admission prices are still to be confirmed.
