Partick Thistle is today proud to announce one of the country’s leading cancer charities, Beatson Cancer Charity, as its charity of the year.
This partnership will involve staff and players at Partick Thistle FC taking part in a whole host of fundraising activities throughout the year from Beatson Bake Offs to ‘Wear it Yellow’ days.
The club will also arrange bucket collections at matches and raise awareness of the cause with branding throughout the stadium and in the matchday programme. Season tickets will also be offered to patients and families and the Partick Thistle FC annual Ball will also support the charity.
David Welch, Chief Executive of Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “This is a truly unique and generous partnership with Partick Thistle FC and we are honoured to be its chosen charity partner for the year ahead. Without support from our corporate and community partners, like Partick Thistle FC, the charity would not be where it is today.
“We’re very grateful to everyone at the club and the Jags’ supporters for their dedication to raising money for The Beatson and its related facilities. Their generosity will have a direct impact on thousands of cancer patients and their families, both now and in the future, through the dedicated work of the charity.”
Ian Maxwell, Managing Director at Partick Thistle FC, added: “This is a very proud moment for everyone at Partick Thistle and I really hope that, during the course of the season, we can raise a lot of money and awareness for Beatson Cancer Charity.
“Football is a huge part of many people’s lives but there are some things that really put it into context. We chose Beatson Cancer Charity because cancer is something that has affected so many people at the club and we want to do everything we can to help beat this horrible disease while supporting the excellent work that the staff and volunteers at Beatson Cancer Charity do every day.”
Beatson Cancer Charity supports and enhances the treatment, care and wellbeing of current and former cancer patients and their families. The charity delivers a wide range of specialist services and provides significant funding to benefit those affected by cancer and to support those involved in cancer care and research. Working in partnership with the NHS and The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, the charity offers the wider community a unique opportunity to contribute to the fight against cancer.
The charity delivers specialist patient and family support services through its unique and award winning Wellbeing Centre, throughout The Beatson and at cancer treatment facilities across the west of Scotland. It also provides funding for specialist staff, including nursing, radiography and research-based posts, as well as for novel research projects, educational initiatives, innovative service developments and enhanced medical equipment.
The next collection will be at the match against Motherwell this Saturday (24/09).
