Tiffoney excited for return to Firhill

It’s been nearly a month since Partick Thistle have taken to the Firhill field but the Jags will make their return to Maryhill this Saturday as Greenock Morton visit. Thistle were 3-2 winners in their last home match, against Queen of the South, and they’ll be looking for another three points at the weekend. The difference maker in that game against the Doonhamers was Scott Tiffoney who celebrated his 23rd birthday this week and the winger would be more than happy to get another important goal this weekend as he faces one of his former clubs. He spoke to ptfc.co.uk ahead of the game:

“We’re just looking to bounce back now after Saturday’s result. The first 44 minutes in that game we were probably happy with then when it goes 1-1, we didn’t really do enough from then on. We just need to look to get back on track and hopefully get three points this week.

“We know this is a tough league where anybody can beat anybody so we can’t afford to let our standards drop. When we’re at our best though we back ourselves to beat anyone which is why we go into this weekend’s game backing ourselves to come out on top.”

Reflecting further on the 3-1 defeat to Arbroath last Saturday, Tiff felt that the Jags were caught out as they pushed for goals in the second half.

“I think after they got that equaliser before half-time, we came out for the second half looking to attack but very early on they hit us the other way and got their goal which wasn’t ideal. Then at 2-1 we had to go for it and we were getting countered a lot but we had chances, myself included, that could have got us something from the game despite us not playing our best stuff.”

Morton come to Firhill off the back of a defeat at Palmerston Park, however, on their last away outing they took three points from Hamilton Accies so Scott says the boys are expecting as tough a game as any from the Ton.

“Morton are a difficult team to play and they’ll not make it easy for us. Coming away from home, they’ll believe they can get something here but similarly we believe in ourselves. As I said, when we play to our full potential we’re a match for anyone in this league.

“It’s almost been a month since our last home game so we’re looking forward to getting back out there and playing on that big pitch.”

Tiffoney was one of the players who missed time during pre-season but he feels he’s getting closer to 100% with each passing match.

“It’s been frustrating so far to be honest. I’ve had a few wee niggles here and there and it’s just been a bit stop-start. The game time I’ve been able to get has been helpful and I got 90 minutes on Saturday which is a good sign so hopefully now that we have a run of games with no breaks I can really put that frustration behind me.”
