Tony Watt arrives in Maryhill

Partick Thistle FC is pleased to announce the signing of Tony Watt on a two-year deal, subject to Scottish FA clearance.

Tony joins the Jags having most recently been at Dundee United where he spent three-and-a-half seasons, played 86 games and scored 20 goals as well as having loan spells at St Mirren and Motherwell.

He was a key contributor to a Championship title win during his time at Tannadice, recording 13 goals and nine assists as the Tangerines were promoted in 2023/24.

Watt’s career began at Airdrie United where he broke into the first team as a 16-year-old before being signed by Celtic in January 2011, going on to become an SPL winner and Champions League goalscorer during his spell at Parkhead.

He subsequently spent time in Belgium, England and Bulgaria, earning a cap for his country while playing for Blackburn Rovers in 2016.

The 31-year-old has made more than 300 appearances in Scottish football that also included stops at Hearts, St. Johnstone and Motherwell before his time at Tannadice and now arrives at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill to continue building on that tally.

Thistle Head Coach Mark Wilson said:

“To secure a player like Tony is a real coup for the club. I played with him briefly when he was a youngster at Celtic and he’s gone on to have a distinguished career since then.

“He arrives here as a very experienced player who had an excellent season the last time he was playing at this level and we want to give him the platform to perform like that again.”
