Turner keen to close gap to top teams

Partick Thistle will face Inverness Caledonian Thistle this weekend as the highland outfit make their first trip to Firhill this season. The Jags were beaten 3–1 earlier in the season when Ian McCall’s men made the journey north, but with Caley Thistle slipping up against Arbroath mid-week, Saturday’s match is a chance for the Firhill side to close the gap to the top of the table. Thistle midfielder Kyle Turner spoke with ptfc.co.uk ahead of game:

“Inverness are a tough opponent and they always have been. Billy Dodds has them coached well and they’re well organised. They’re doing well at the top of the league but they got beat at home so they’ll be looking to bounce back and try to get a win. We know it’s a massive game and if we can get a win ourselves, we can close the gap to the top few teams in the league.

“We know that any team that comes down to Firhill will want to try and get the three points. Inverness are doing well, and we know we need to produce a good performance if we want to beat them on Saturday and continue to fight at the top end of the table.”

Saturday’s match against the Caley Jags comes after a midweek match against Greenock Morton for the Maryhill men. Despite having chances, Thistle couldn’t get the ball in the net and came away from Cappielow with a point which Kyle thinks should have been all three.

“Obviously, I think we had chances against Morton that we could have taken during the match. At the start of the game, we had a good chance through Zak and a couple of corners as well and then Scott had a couple of shots but obviously, we’re disappointed with a point after creating some good opportunities.

“The conditions weren’t great for football either. It was hard with the rain and the wind, but I thought we should have won the game but at the same time there’s going to be teams that go to Cappielow, and struggle more than we did. I think we have to look at it as a good point, but we need to make sure that we build on that going forward.”

Kyle made his return to the Jags starting line-up against the Cappielow side after a short spell on the bench and despite not coming away with maximum points the midfielder was pleased to get some game time.

“I’m feeling good after completing the full 90 minutes. The last full game I played was against Raith. I know I played in some games after that but it’s good to be in from the start and see out the full match.

“It was good to be back playing again. I want to get minutes under my belt, and I want to make sure that I can help the team win games. We didn’t manage to grab all three points on Tuesday but for me personally, it was good to be back in amongst the starting eleven.”
