Two potentially lifesaving defibrillators have been installed at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill following a kind donation by Jags fans the Murray family, in memory of lifelong supporter Denise Murray.
The defibrillators are now located on the outside wall of the Jackie Husband Stand near to the central hospitality entrance and on the side wall of the John Lambie stand, facing supporters after they arrive in the stadium via the turnstiles.
They are available for use if required by supporters on matchdays and for use by anyone within the stadium out with matchdays, each defibrillator coming complete with code on door to open door as well as clear instructions as to how to use them.
In addition, St Andrew’s First Aid’s Community Engagement team will now deliver regular training sessions within the stadium for players, staff, officials and fans to train them how to perform CPR and locate and use a defibrillator. The first training session will take place on the afternoon of Friday 26th April 2024 – spaces are limited so any supporters wishing to attend this should confirm their place by emailing
Please check the club website for details of future training sessions. In the meantime, please watch St Andrew’s First Aid’s short video showing how to perform CPR and use an AED.
This gesture was made by the family at the time of the first anniversary of the untimely passing of Denise, a beloved mum, daughter and sister, and one of Thistle’s most loyal and dedicated supporters.
Denise’s mum Irene said: “We wanted to do something worthwhile in Denise’s memory and this seemed perfect as her heart really was in Firhill with her beloved Jags.”
The donation follows the Murray family establishing the Denise Murray Memorial Award, recognising the outstanding contribution made by an individual or group to Partick Thistle or the club’s wider community. The inaugural Denise Murray Memorial Award was presented to Charlene O’Hara during the half-time interval of our recent win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle, in recognition of the tireless work she’s put into re-establishing the Partick Thistle Disabled Supporters’ Association.
Partick Thistle CEO Chris Ross said: “This really is an incredible gesture, on behalf of everyone at Partick Thistle I’d like to thank the Murray family, in particular Denise’s mum, for gifting the club these defibrillators which have the potential to save lives.
“We must also thank St Andrews First Aid for their support. The Murray family covered the cost of the first defibrillator, while St Andrews First Aid donated the second. We are extremely grateful to them and look forward to growing our partnership with them including through upcoming training sessions at the stadium.
“We know how much Denise meant to her family as she did to so many Thistle fans and both the award and this donation are fitting tributes to an individual who devoted so much of her life to the club. Thank you once again to the Murray family.”
