Vacancy: Thistle Weir Youth Academy Director (TWYA)

What is the Thistle Weir Youth Academy?

Thistle Weir Youth Academy (TWYA) is the “academy pathway” that plays in the Progressive Performance section of the Scottish FA’s CAS (Club Academy Scotland) structure. It has teams ranging from under-11s through to under-18s which contain the very best of talent.

The club considers the TWYA as the direct pathway to the first team. Our men’s first team management duo consists of two former leaders of the TWYA, something we are extremely proud of.

In recent years, the Thistle Weir Youth Academy has produced an incredible list of players who have gone on to make more than 900 appearances for the club. In addition to that, it has produced International footballers and above all else these players have become well balanced and polite members of society.

As a result of our incredibly talented Academy director Paul McDonald moving on to assist Kris Doolan with the first team, we are now in the market for a new Academy director.

The Role

In this role, the successful individual will be leading a strong team of coaches and support staff as we build the very best talent into the footballers of tomorrow. This is an opportunity to grow what we are already extremely proud of and create something even stronger. There is a new level of financial and logistical support coming into the club, an appetite via fan ownership to produce in the TWYA something extremely special. We will not be settling with what we have achieved, this is about a greater, more successful future that we want you to lead us towards.

We expect that you have delivered and understood excellence in a previous role within football, can identify talent and importantly nurture it and bring out further qualities. You will be able to motivate and lead a team, understand the drivers behind young people’s ambition and help bring it to the fore. The TWYA director should be a person of impeccable character, with ambition, and someone the academy members can be proud to be led by.

It is essential the candidate holds either – or both of – a UEFA Pro license or UEFA A license.

Applicants should in the first instance send their CV and a covering letter explaining their suitability to
