Job Title: Head of Media and Communications, Partick Thistle Football Club

Location: Glasgow, Scotland

Reports to: General Manager

Job Type: Full Time (including weekend working)

Salary: Negotiable, circa £27,000 – £30,000, commensurate with experience

Overview:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Head of Media and Communications at Partick Thistle Football Club is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing and directing the club’s media department.

This position involves developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies, managing media relations, and ensuring consistent and engaging content across all platforms.

The Head of Media and Communications will lead a team of media professionals, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure high performance and professional growth.

This role requires a dynamic and strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of the media landscape, particularly within the sports industry. Essential to success will be the ability to balance the competing priorities of both football and commercial media output.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management

  • Provide line management to the media team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, ensuring their professional growth and development.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure unified messaging and brand representation.

 

Strategic Planning and Implementation

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for the club, ensuring alignment with the club’s objectives and brand.
  • Set the overall tone and style of the club’s communications to maintain a consistent brand voice.
  • Identify opportunities for strategic media coverage and content creation to enhance the club’s profile.
  • Analyse media performance and provide regular reports to the General Manager and other senior stakeholders.

 

Commercial Revenue Support

  • Develop and implement media strategies to support the club’s commercial goals and revenue generation.
  • Create and manage media campaigns that promote sponsorships, partnerships, and merchandise sales.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to integrate media activities with marketing and sales efforts.
  • Utilise media platforms to highlight and enhance the club’s commercial initiatives and opportunities.
  • Track and report on the effectiveness of media campaigns in driving commercial revenue.

 

Matchday Responsibilities

  • Primary point of contact for opposition clubs / external media requiring accreditation, photographer passes and gantry filming space.
  • Recruitment, retention and management of club’s matchday media team.
  • Ensure production of team sheets and other required materials.

 

Media Relations and Communication

  • Assist Media Consultant with all media relations, including press releases, interviews, and media events.
  • Organisation and delivery of weekly press conferences with local and national press.

 

Content Creation and Management

  • Ensure consistent and engaging communication across all platforms, including social media, the club’s website, and other digital channels.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of high-quality content, including written articles, videos, and graphics.
  • Develop innovative and engaging content ideas to increase fan engagement and grow the club’s online presence.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and contractors as needed to produce specialised content.
  • Work with the club programme production team to ensure sign-off and production of the club’s matchday programme.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in a media management role, preferably within the sports industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic communication plans.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital content creation.
