Amid a strong run of form as part of the Partick Thistle frontline, Tony Watt has been named the SPFL Championship Player of the Month for January.
The Jags’ number 32 started all four of his team’s games last month, playing the full 90 in three of those as the Maryhill Men added seven points to their league total.
Tony’s standout January moments came at the start and end of the month, firstly rocketing in a 94th minute winner in Thistle’s dramatic comeback win over Greenock Morton at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill.

Then, in the last game of January, Watt produced one of the assists of the season at McDiarmid Park as he led an 80-yard counter-attack which ended with the 32-year-old teeing up Oisin Smyth for an easy finish to put Mark Wilson’s side 1-0 up against the league leaders St. Johnstone.
Upon receiving his award, Tony said:
“January was a good month for me and for the team overall. Not everything went our way but that’s going to happen in the Championship and we were able to pick up some big results in the league and the cup.
“The month started in such a brilliant way with that goal against Morton – it was a special feeling. We’d put so much into the second half of that game but it looked like we were going to fall just short of winning it then that chance came my way and thankfully I was able to take it.
“I want to give a shoutout to my teammates who were excellent in January as they have been over the course of the whole season. We’ve got a terrific group here at the club who are all willing to fight for each other and that’s been an important part of our success this season.”
