Wes McDonald signs for the Jags

Partick Thistle FC is delighted to announce the signing of Wes McDonald on a one-year deal, subject to international clearance.

The 26-year-old attacker becomes a Jag after departing Hartlepool United earlier in the summer where he played 35 times and scored three goals last season at EFL League Two level.

Born in London, McDonald’s youth career included stints at Crystal Palace, Fulham and Birmingham City though it would be during loan spells at Nuneaton and Solihull Moors that Wes would get his first taste of senior football.

He moved on to Yeovil Town in 2018 before joining Walsall where he would enjoy a fruitful two seasons, scoring 10 goals in 81 games for the Saddlers.

McDonald has spent the last two seasons at Morecambe and Hartlepool but now makes his first move into Scottish football as he signs for Kris Doolan’s Jags.

Wes will wear shirt number 25 during his time at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill.

Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:

“Wes was a player who our scouting team had identified before the end of last season, so he’s been on our radar for a number of months. He had a number of options over the summer but has decided that Maryhill will be his home for the next season, at least, and I’m so pleased about that.

“He can play on the wing or off the striker and offers a real directness that I think you need in the Championship. He’s not afraid to go and take on his man or try a shot and we want players who’ll go and make things happen in the final third for us.”
