Woods disappointed after late defeat

Martin Woods was as lost for answers as many in the stands after two late Dundee goals saw them take all three points from The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill.

Despite Thistle being ahead in the first half, Dundee won it at the death to leave Woods gutted after the full time whistle.

Speaking to ptfc.co.uk he said: “We are hugely disappointed. We are totally gutted in the dressing room.

“It was two totally different halves. First half we were completely dominant, probably the best we’ve played since I’ve been here. We had all of the ball and were far superior but in the second half we were really poor. They started the half well and we tried to change shape to counter that but it didn’t help.”

Dundee has most of the play in the second half and scored at the end to take the points but Martin admits it was with the run of play

“If I’m honest, the goals were coming, they were pushing us further and further back and they got their break in the end but we have to be better than that.

“We had a number of chances to kill off the game but we didn’t and that allows them back into the game. It was the difference in the two halves we have to look at. We have to sit down as a squad and see why that has happened, because it has happened a couple of times now. “

The midfielder admits the squad need to look at the difference in performance between the two halves and make sure they perform for the entire match

“We seem to be starting games well but not seeing that on to the second half. It happened a couple of times before Christmas too and we need to get better at going for the full game.

“It spoils everyone’s weekend and we are all really gutted at how things went. We know we have to be better”

With the result it makes next week’s trip to Hamilton even bigger, a fact not lost on Woods or the rest of the squad.

“Next week is huge. Everyone knows it’s a must win game. We’ve spoken about it in the dressing room after the game. We will have the weekend to be down about the result and to think about that but come Monday it’s a new week. We come in and we work as hard as we can. That’s all we can do. We come into training and work towards next week and make sure we go out and put in a good performance and get the result we need.”
