Thistle secured the loan signing of Lewis Neilson from Hearts on 3rd August 2023.
The 20-year-old defender was a product of the Dundee United youth system having joined the Tangerines at the age of 10. He made his senior debut for the Tannadice club as a 17-year-old against St. Johnstone in August 2020 and would play nine more games for United before heading out on loan to Falkirk for the back end of the season.
An ankle injury limited his playing time during the following campaign but he still made 10 appearances before departing to sign a three-year deal with Heart of Midlothian. In his debut season at Tynecastle, he played 16 times including five appearances in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stages.
Neilson also has international experience at multiple age levels and was a regular with the Scotland u21s throughout 2023.
The centre-half made his Thistle debut off the bench against Raith Rovers before earning his first start for the club in a 3-1 league win over Queen’s Park at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill.
Quickly nailing down a place in the Jags’ backline, Neilson’s form was recognised by the Red and Yellow Army as he was voted the team’s McCrea FS Player of the Month for October.
