Ryan, an Australian under 23 international, joined Thistle in September 2015 having impressed on a week-long trial at the club. The start to his Jags career was disrupted by numerous international call ups which limited his opportunities for regular first team football. With the side on a good run, Ryan had to bide his time for his first Jags start but it came in late 2015.
Ryan netted his first Thistle goal as he headed the winner home away at Hamilton as the Jags ran out 2-1 victors in March 2016.
After the Olyroos failed to qualify for the 2016 summer Olympics, Ryan grew into the first team picture and made a number of impressive appearances, giving Thistle fans a glimpse of exactly what he could do. With a full pre-season under his belt, Ryan became an almost ever present, missing just one game in the 2016/17 campaign. He scored just once that season – in a 2-2 draw with Hamilton – but his energy and commitment became a key component of the Thistle midfield. His strong form was noticed by his national side as he made the initial Australia squad of 30 for the World Cup qualifiers in March 2017.
Ryan missed Thistle’s 2017/18 league opener at Easter Road but has featured in every Ladbrokes Premiership match since the opening weekend.
He has already bettered his scoring tally from last season, scoring in the Jags’ 3-0 league cup victory over St. Johnstone and the side’s 2-1 league win over Dundee where he scored a 75th minute equaliser.
