Preview: Thistle were still without injured duo Glavin and Smith for this game and were dealt another injury blow when reserve Brian Ralston broke his leg in a match against St Mirren reserves. Thistle traveled to Stark’s Park with maximum points after winning their first two games in Group 7. Rovers meanwhile suffered a surprise 4-0 defeat to Arbroath after beating East Fife 2-1 in their opening match.
Match Report: Despite their fine start to their League Cup Group, Thistle struggled against Second Division Raith at Stark’s Park in the early stages of this tie. The home side pressed early on forcing a series of corners and it took Thistle almost 20 minutes to trouble keeper McDermott. But it was Raith who took the lead through Roddy Georgeson slipping the ball past Rough after a defence splitting pass. In the second half, Thistle looked far more dangerous but Raith held firm until fifteen minutes from time when Frank Coulston equalised.
