💻️Highlights and reaction post match
Spartans have endured a difficult start of the season so far having picked up 4 points from a possible 18 available.
Having faced a difficult opening round of fixtures, Debbi McCulloch will be hoping her side can use the momentum of beating Montrose in their previous match as they face this quick turnaround heading into this midweek fixture.
Having failed to beat the Jags last season, Spartans will hope to change their fortunes as they face a match under the floodlights against a strong Thistle side.
It was a battle of wills on Sunday afternoon as no love was lost between divisional rivals Motherwell and Thistle. Having pipped the Lanarkshire outfit to a historic top six finish last season by a single point, it was always going to be an intense affair between the sides.
Thistle started on the front foot attempting to create chances early on but an unfortunate injury to an in-form Emma Lawton forced Brian Graham into an early substitution in the form of a returning Clare Docherty, who had been suffering from a few knocks this season. The Jags would not be unphased however as they continued to be the better side and kept the dangers of Carla Boyce and Kaela McDonald-Nguah at bay.
Making full use of the strong bench available, super sub Megan Robb tucked away the loose ball from an Amy Bulloch corner to give Thistle the 1-0 victory in this feisty affair.
Brian Graham spoke after the match about how impressed he was with the performance, and overall start to the season with the goal of 12 points from the opening 18 yet feels like we could’ve had more. Again the word “Belief” was used by the gaffer and his mantra continues as we approach the next round of fixtures.
Strong Followings from the Red and Yellow army have really helped our girls this season. We hope to see as many of you as possible this Wednesday evening as we have our first match under the lights at Petershill Park this season.
Emma Lawton faces a fitness test having been forced off early against Motherwell at the weekend while the same can be said for Kodie Hay having also picked up a knock against her former club.
Clare Docherty made her return to action against Motherwell and the manager will be delighted to have a player of her ability back in the squad.Rachel Donaldson continues her recovery and is edging closer to a return.
On top of this, a touch of rotation could be on the cards for the management team as we look to prevent fatigue and injury.
