Tomas Cerny put in a man of the match performance as Thistle recorded their first win of the season against Dundee at the Energy Check Stadium at Firhill.
The keeper saved a penalty and pulled off a number of other saves to set the match up for Miles Storey’s injury time winner.
Tomas was understandably a happy man at full time. Speaking to ptfc.co.uk after the game he said: “It’s been a tough tough run and it’s been very difficult for everyone. I’m delighted we have managed to find a way to win the game and get off the mark for the season”
The Czech admits it maybe wasn’t the most deserved of victories but knows the players put everything in to get there.
“It’s been a strange, strange game and Dundee had a lot of chances. We’ve managed to keep ourselves in the game and got the win right at the end, which doesn’t usually happen to us.
“It shows the fight we have in the squad, there were times in the match where we looked on the ropes but we got ourselves up and kept going. We kept fighting.
“After such a long time without a win, to win it in that manner makes it even better. It was such an important goal at the end.”
The turning point for the game was Cerny’s penalty save in the first half and he hopes it can be the moment that changes the season too
“I was delighted to make the save for the penalty. I hope it helps change the season. It changed the game today, if that helps change the season it’s great. I do believe it will, I believe it will help us go on from here.
“Dundee missed chances and I made some good saves but it is all for nothing if we don’t go on and win the game. To make the saves and to win the game it’s very special and I am very happy tonight.”
The goalkeeper admits he wasn’t feeling guilty for giving away the penalty. He knew he had to make an effort at the ball.
“I was ok with it. I had to go for the ball, if he goes round me then he will likely score so I knew I had to make an effort for the ball. I brought him down but it then gave me a chance to save the penalty. I was happy to be able to do that. “
Next up is a trip to Hamilton and the Jags number 1 is hoping to build on the first win of the season
“It’s a good win but it means nothing if we don’t go on and build on it. It should give us a lot of confidence going into the Hamilton game. We need to play better and be a lot more solid defensively. We played ok in parts but we know we have to do better if we are to go and beat Hamilton to build on this result. We are very happy tonight but we now have to concentrate on Hamilton.”
