Earlier this month we brought you the news that manager Alan Archibald had secured Abdul Osman on a two year contract extension while David Amoo pledged his future for another 12 months. This morning we are pleased to announce another of the out-of-contract players has pledged his future to Partick Thistle.
Ryan Scully is the latest to sign and has agreed a two year contract extension keeping the goalkeeper at Firhill until the summer of 2018.
Ryan has progressed through the youth ranks and it is hard to believe he first featured in a Partick Thistle matchday squad almost seven and a half years ago when he was an unused substitute in a match against Ross County in November 2008.
Ryan has been understudy to a number of quality Thistle goalkeepers, learning from each of them as he continued to progress as a footballer.
He made his first team debut for the club on the last day of the 2010/11 season, keeping a clean sheet in a victory over Raith Rovers. On the day of his 19th birthday, Ryan produced an outstanding performance in a 1-0 victory away to Dundee.
With first-team football essential for Ryan’s development, the chance to spend two and a half seasons out on loan was one he snapped up. At first the young custodian joined Albion Rovers spending the second half of the 2012/13 season in Coatbridge. This was followed up with two season long loan spells at Dunfermline Athletic where Ryan’s performances saw him scoop a number of Player of the Year awards.
He returned to Firhill during last summer to challenge Tomas Cerny for the number one jersey, but had to wait until October for his return to action in a Partick Thistle shirt. Ryan has featured in each of Thistle’s last five games as the side secured safety in the SPFL Ladbrokes Premiership with a series of strong performances.
All at Firhill look forward to seeing Ryan’s continual development as a goalkeeper over the next two seasons.
