Kevin Nisbet came on as a late substitute in Thistle’s win over Kilmarnock on Saturday and he was pleased to play a part in helping Thistle get over the line to Premiership safety.
Of course. It’s just getting over the final line on Saturday. We had a few nervy games against Dundee and Inverness where we didn’t play well but we got there against Kilmarnock.
Kevin has featured as a substitute for Thistle in three of the last four games and he has enjoyed the small taste of first team football he has sampled recently.
“It’s been good. I’ve just kept my head down and been training well. I was focussing on the development games in a bid to push for the first team and hopefully I can continue to feature between now and the end of the season.
“I’m pushing hard and I’m hoping to get that first start and grabbing my first goal for the first team. I had a chance to get it against Kilmarnock on Saturday, but the chance came too quick for me.”
On Sunday evening, the young striker was voted as the development squad Player of the Year, an award he takes great pride in.
“To be voted as the best player by your teammates is a great feeling. It proves I’m doing something right for the side and playing my part in the team effort. Without the good service the boys give me I wouldn’t be able to score goals.
“Last season I think I got seven goals in the Development League, this year I hit 16, so I have definitely improved in front of goal. I’ve just been working hard in training and trying to get better all the time and I think I’ve done that this season.”
It’s been a whirlwind season for the youngster as he looks to add to his 7 first team appearances before the season concludes.
“At the start of the season I was just looking to make my first team debut. I managed to do that in September against Ross County and I’ve been in the squad a number of times since then. I’m just looking to add to that and continue to get more experience at this level.”
Thistle’s number 27 is keen to show the management team what he can do in the dying embers of the season, starting at Tannadice on Tuesday night.
If I’m picked, then I’ll go out and give it my all. I know I’ve got to take my chance to show the gaffer what I can do in the team.
