Sneddon hoping to take chance

Jamie Sneddon is hoping to grasp his first team opportunity with both hands.  The goalkeeper is currently deputising for the injured Cammy Bell and the youngster is hoping to do enough to keep hold of his place between the sticks.

Sneddon is looking to help the team to victory this weekend as Dunfermline Athletic visit The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill. Speaking to ptfc.co.uk he was looking forward to trying to further stake his claim for that starting place.

“I’ve had to be patient for my chance but it’s finally came and I’m aiming to make the most of it.

“I’m delighted the gaffer has faith in me and it’s now up to me to do the best I possibly can and look to help the team gain as many points as possible.”

Jamie knows Cammy will be back from injury soon enough but he is hoping between now and then to put in good enough performances to make it a difficult decision for the manager.

“All I can do is play my best every week and hope that is enough, Cammy will be back from injury and it’s up to me to do everything I can to keep the starting place once he is.

“I want to be the best I can be, hopefully that is enough both for me and for the team, I want to be part of a winning team here and make an impact in making that happen.”

Jamie’s chance arrived when Cammy was injured in the warm up at Falkirk and Sneddon admits life as a sub keeper involves always making sure you are ready.

“It comes as a bit of a shock at first however it is part of the job as a sub keeper to always be ready when called upon. You always have to prepare properly and I just got my head ready and prepared for the game as I normally would.

“Every keeper will tell you the same, even when you aren’t the number one at that moment, you train 100%, you keep on working hard and I’ve done that since I arrived. I’ve always trained hard and made sure I was ready when I was called upon and hopefully that pays off.”

Sneddon has arrived at the Club from part time football and is enjoying improving himself as a goalkeeper during his time with the Club.

“As a keeper if you can bring that calm presence to the defence in front then it can help. That is what I look to do. I try stay calm and play out from the back, that is our best chance of starting attacks too so it can help the entire team.

“I’ve improved a lot as a keeper since I arrived at the Club, I didn’t play in the first team last year but I was training full time and I felt it improved all aspects of my game, this year I’m ready to take another step up, to play regularly and to help the team as much as I can.”

The Thistle number 23 admits he has enjoyed great backing from the Thistle support so far and is appreciative of the support.

“I’ve heard a few nice shouts when I’ve made a good save or made a kick out, so it’s fantastic to know they are behind not only me in particular but the team. Considering the run we’ve been on to have them behind you really helps, especially myself and to know I have them on my side is fantastic.”

Sneddon knows what Saturday’s match has to bring come full time at The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill.

“We can keep saying the same things, we can say we are playing better but none of that matters unless we get a result. That is what matters, nothing else.

“It never crossed my mind at any point that we were going to lose on Saturday, I felt comfortable with how the team were defending and I thought we were going to get the goal and win it. However, we can’t use any excuses, we lost the game and that is what matters at the end of the day.

“We have to win; we should be looking to beat anyone at home. We know the run we have been on and the fans are still there, they still support us and that is huge. We have to go out and get a result.”
