Hamilton Academical 1 Partick Thistle 2
Potentially, this was a match of considerable importance. There were only a few weeks of the season remaining and, as things stood, Thistle were just one point ahead of Hamilton with a game in hand. Victory for the Jags would create a nice little gap, providing some breathing space for players and supporters alike. Maybe yours truly could enjoy some much-needed sleep!
We didn’t get off to the kind of start we would have liked. Indeed, Tomas Cerny was picking the ball out of the net after just ten minutes, and to make matters worse it was at the end of the ground housing most of the travelling support. No further damage was done during the remainder of the first half and after the interval Thistle were quickly into their stride, scoring on 50 minutes through Mathias Pogba, thus nullifying the early strike by Greg Docherty. As the minutes ticked away the Jags took firmer command and the clincher came along with seven minutes remaining, courtesy of Ryan Edwards. Incidentally, I thought he had a very good game in this year’s Scottish Cup Final – sadly not for Thistle, however.
The featured match represented a very good result for the Maryhill men, who on the day had to cope with quite a few very combative, committed players such as Ziggy Gordon, Dougie Imrie and Darian McKinnon.
To compound matters, the playing surface provides a wide range of challenges for the visiting teams.
The full Thistle team, resplendent in sky blue strips, was as follows:- Tomas Cerny, Gary Miller, Dan Seaborne, Sean Welsh, Callum Booth, Abdul Osman, David Amoo, Steven Lawless, Ryan Edwards, Gary Fraser, Mathias Pogba.
Here is a suggestion for something to do at home. For a few minutes switch off the telly. Put away the tablets, pads, mobile phones and all other irritations (sorry, gadgets) and see who can name the teams each of those players has now signed for. It’s hard to accept that so much could happen in three years, or just over. Not much stands still in the world of football! Good luck with your efforts!
