Robson knows there is more to come

Tommy Robson admits it wasn’t the start Thistle were looking for as they could only come away with a 1-1 draw in the opening day fixture against Alloa.

Thistle started poorly and, speaking to ptfc.co.uk, Robson said the whole team knows it wasn’t good enough.

“It wasn’t the start we wanted. We didn’t play well at all and we all know it wasn’t good enough. If we want to push on and do something in the league, we can’t play like that.

“We never started the game well, we never really got going. Everything we did was slow and sluggish and we didn’t get into the game. We created more and did better in the second half but even then we know we weren’t as good as we know we can be and failing to meet our own standards is the most disappointing thing.”

Tommy isn’t sure of the exact reasons for the poor performance but knows there were positives to take and that the players can improve on what they showed

“We’ve been sharp in training and in the Betfred Cup games so far so we are really disappointed we didn’t show that in the game.

“We have to take the positives through in that we got a point away from home and we were able to improve in the second half and create a lot more chances. We could have lost it but we didn’t and that’s positive. There are always positives to take from a game and we have to do that while working and fixing the things we didn’t do well enough”

Next up is the home opener as Dundee United come to town and it’s a match the Thistle defender is looking forward to

“We are looking forward to the game on Friday, it’s our first home league game and we will go out looking for a result. We’ve worked hard all pre-season on a way we want to play, a belief in ourselves that we can go out and win games and we have to show that on Friday in front of the home fans.”

The Jags fifteen is enjoying life at Thistle and is hoping to repay the fans for some great backing on Saturday

“I’m really enjoying being here. I feel the fittest I’ve felt in a long time and I’m enjoying playing. Hopefully I’m able to contribute and we can have a successful season.

“The fans were great, they gave us some great backing all game even when we weren’t playing well. We have to step up now and give them something back for the support and backing they always give us.”
