Preview: Just two days after a stunning 3-2 win over Rangers in their opening First Division match, Thistle would face Alloa at Firhill in the supplementary round of the League Cup. The winners face St Johnstone in the two legged quarter final later this month. Two goal Rangers hero Johnny Gibson is missing for this one after picking up an injury during his man of the match display on Saturday.
Report:
Thistle made a huge stride towards their second League Cup quarter final in succession after hammering Alloa at Firhill. The Jags were 3-1 up after 20 minutes and had scored all four goals! Frank Coulston headed Thistle ahead in eight minutes but three minutes later Alloa equalised after Ian Reid headed the ball into his own net.
Denis McQuade put Thistle back in front on 19 minutes and just a minute later Smith made it three. In a much harder fought second half, Thistle were under a lot of pressure before Jimmy Bone scored the fourth in 78 minutes. Three minutes from time, the Jags got a penalty but this time Bone shot straight at the keeper.
