There is a quick turnaround for Partick Thistle as they get ready to face Dundee United at Tannadice this evening following a disappointing performance and result at the weekend. Assistant manager Alan Archibald spoke to ptfc.co.uk ahead of making the trip up to Dundee on Tuesday.
“We’re all disappointed about Saturday’s result but there is nothing we can do about it now. We got them back in for a training session on Monday morning to go through how we will set up against Dundee United and the players are all desperate to get on the pitch and put it right. We’ve had a couple of fantastic performances on the road and that makes it even more disappointing because when there are almost 3,000 Thistle fans attending our home games, we want to get wins in front of them and send them home happy.”
The standard of performance dipped below what had been expected on Saturday but the Jags management team know that the squad are fully focused, and capable, of doing what is required to get the three points.
“Regardless of where we are going the standards will need to be raised from what we showed on Saturday. Dundee United are a good side, they have invested really well but we know we have the quality in our team to hurt them. We’ve done well on the road recently and not many teams will go to Inverness or Dens Park and win, so we’re drawing our inspiration from that to make it another away night to remember.”.”
Away games have been enjoyable over the last few weeks with a tangible connection between the playing squad and the support and Archie is looking to create another special night under the floodlights.
“The fans are desperate to get behind us. We’ve seen the connection between the players and the support on the road and that makes it even more frustrating we can’t get the job done at home. We know there will be a good backing on Tuesday night and we’ll be going all out to give them a win which sets us up nicely for Saturday.”
With Joe Cardle, Lewis Mansell and Steven Saunders all missing out at the weekend, Alan is hopeful that some may make a return to playing action at Tannadice.
“Hopefully a couple of them will return into contention. They were in on Sunday training to see how they reacted to it and it has looked encouraging. They are muscle injuries which is frustrating, Joe Cardle was all set to start against Arbroath then picks his injury up on Friday in the last bit of training. He might have played on Saturday but there is always the risk that it gets worse and you don’t want to be missing a player for up to six weeks.”
