Bannigan: As players we only have ourselves to blame

Stuart Bannigan admits the players were gutted after losing to Ross County, despite leading 2-0 at half time. However, the midfielder knows the players only have themselves to blame.

Speaking to ptfc.co.uk after the game finished, he said: “We’re devastated with what happened in the second half. We were exactly where we wanted to be going in at half time and then we just capitulated in the second half.

“We were comfortable and threw it away in front of our own fans. To make it worse it sends us to the foot of the table but we know we only have ourselves to blame.”

Banzo knows the second half should never have happened.

“We played well in the first half, got ourselves in front and were looking good at half time. We spoke at half time about not giving them anything in the second half and after two minutes we let them back into it.

“It was a poor clearance and they get the goal back which gives them a lift but what happens after that shouldn’t happen. They win it comfortably in the end. It wasn’t good enough in the second half, we all know that.”

The Jags captain is adamant that lessons will be learned.

“That was maybe the first glimpse of the Old Thistle coming back for quite a while and we can’t let that happen again. The second half showed us we can’t get complacent, we can’t play like that again, we have to work hard and not let performances like that happen again.”

Thistle travel to Dunfermline on Tuesday night and Bannigan feels it’s the perfect opportunity to get the County match out of the system.

“It’s good that we have a game in a couple of days time to try and get it out the system, it’s important that we get back to winning ways straight away.

“We know we can’t let that knock us, we know that’ll be the end of us if we let that send us on a poor run. We need to make sure we get back on the good run we were on as soon as possible.

“Tuesday will be tough but we have to go and take the positives from the first half into that game while learning from what happened second half.”
