We are pleased to announce that Ben Stanway is the latest modern apprentice who will step up from the Thistle Weir Youth Academy to join the club.
The 17 year old midfielder has progressed through the Thistle Weir Youth Academy pathway and has spent time around the first team squad in training this season. Ben has already made his competitive professional debut in red and yellow when he appeared as a late substitute in our SPFL Trust Trophy tie away to Stranraer.
Everyone at Thistle welcomes Ben to the Club and looks forward to watching his development over the next couple of seasons.
Thistle boss Ian McCall said:
“Ben is an exciting young player who has been in training with the first team squad recently and we’re really happy with the way he’s equipped himself. Like any player at his age, he’s got a lot to work on but his attitude and determination mean he’s in a good place to keep improving himself each day.
“I always say to young players that you have to stay grounded and realise that the hard works never stops. If you want to become a first team player here at Thistle then you need to push yourself to be the best you can be and we’re looking forward to seeing what Ben’s best is because he’s got the attributes to go very far.”
Head of TWYA Professional Phase, Ryan McCann said:
“I’m delighted to see Ben get the opportunity to sign his first deal in professional football with Partick Thistle. Having worked closely with him over the last couple of years his application on the training pitch and desire to improve as a footballer have been first class.
“Ben has been around the first team this season, getting a taste of the professional environment and getting this contract is a continuation of the hard work he’s been putting in throughout this time within the Academy. I’m really proud that Ben will move into the football club and can’t wait to see how his career progresses.”
Thistle Weir Youth Academy Director, Paul McDonald, said:
“It’s always a proud day when you see an Academy player graduates into the football club and today is another day of success for our Academy. The player pathway here at Thistle was one of the main attractions of why I came to Firhill and Ben moving into the football club is a fantastic start to 2022 for our Academy.”
