Scottish Premiership
25th April 2015
Ross County 1 Partick Thistle 2
This was the first game scheduled after the league split into two sections. It was vital that we obtain a good result to help banish any lingering fears of relegation. The team duly obliged and we could breathe more easily. The weather isn’t always kind up in Dingwall, but on this occasion one could have no complaints on that front.
We didn’t get off to a very good start with Michael Gardyne opening the scoring for the home side after 21 minutes. However, we struck back within five minutes with an unusual goal from an unusual source. The big Belgian defender, Frederic Frans, struck from dstance. The ball scarcely rose from the ground, but was driven with such force that it sped into the net, leaving the home ‘keeper with little chance. Better still was to come when on 56 minutes Stephen O’Donnell gave Thistle a 2-1 lead and we hung on to that tenaciously until the end. The journey back down to Glasgow was no bother at all!
The team which gave us such a good start in the post-split fixtures was as follows:- Scott Fox, Stephen O’Donnell, Conrad Balatoni, Frederic Frans, Callum Booth, Abdul Osman, Stuart Bannigan, Stevie Lawless, Kallum Higginbotham, Ryan Stevenson, Lyle Taylor.
Following this match, Thistle went on to beat St. Mirren and with Hamilton and Motherwell. The only blip came in a home defeat to Kilmarnock, but we had enough points tucked away to ensure safety and a serene summer of tranquillity before the nail-biting started up again. We wouldn’t have it any other way would we?
