Devine enjoying pre-season workouts

This season’s pre-season schedule has seen a number of players fielded in each of the three games to date. One constant in the starting line up has been new signing Daniel Devine who completed another 90 minutes last night against Raith Rovers. On the bus back to Glasgow ptfc.co.uk caught up with the central defender to find out how pre-season is going for him.

Pre-season has gone well. The boys have made me feel really welcome. Everyone is working hard and focussing on the first game of the season. It’s a tough time of the year, it’s always meant to be tough and we’re just looking forward to the season ahead.“

Daniel has played alongside a number of defensive options but admits that is just the way it goes in pre-season.

“There are a lot of changes during pre-season. There is never really a set team, it’s all about getting minutes in the legs but it’s been good. The manager is trying to get everyone game ready for the first game of the season in case they are needed. I feel I’m slowly but surely getting there. I’m getting that sharpness back. We’ve just got one game before the competitive action starts and hopefully it’ll help me be raring to go.

“It was a good run out against Raith. There was a lot of chopping and changing which makes it tough with so many changes through the night. Rovers were solid and they have a couple of good players in their team. We need to work on a couple of things but a positive is that we didn’t concede. We need to get the passing a bit crisper but we have time to work on that.“

With two clean sheets in three games Daniel is pleased with the start the defensive has made to trying to keep the impressive record from last season going

“As a defender I pride ourselves on keeping clean sheets. After all if we keep a clean sheet at the back we’re not going to lose games. I’m hoping the boys up front can help out with a goal or two, which I’m sure will come soon. Everyone is looking sharper in training. It’s all about getting the shape in the team, making sure we are solid and being ready to go at the start of the season.”
