Erskine hoping to build on Saturday

Chris Erskine knows the trip to Aberdeen is a tough one but feels it’s one the players shouldn’t fear as they look to build on the home win over Hamilton.

Erskine and the rest of the squad were off for Christmas Day but have worked hard ahead of the trip to Pittodrie

Chris spoke to ptfc.co.uk ahead of the trip up the A90, He said: “We go into the game confident. We had a good win against Hamilton and got ourselves off the bottom of the table for Christmas.

“It let us enjoy Christmas with our families but we’ve worked hard ahead of this game and it will be a tough test going up to Aberdeen.

“We know Aberdeen are a good side but we feel we can cause them problems and put in a performance against them”

Erskine admits the game against Hamilton wasn’t pretty but the result was most important.

“It was great to get the win against Hamilton to get ourselves off the bottom of the table. It wasn’t pretty but the three points were the main thing and it gives us something to build and work on.

“We can look up the way and try and move ourselves further up the table. Our performances have been mixed this season, some have been good and some poor and that is why we are in the position we are in.”

The win at the weekend was the fourth win from five at home but Chris is hoping to turn the away form around, starting on Wednesday

“Our home record has turned round recently, but our away form isn’t good enough and we need to do something about that.

“We know we need to work hard against Aberdeen. We need to start well, we need to work hard to press them and get into them early on. They were beaten at the weekend so we have to play on that and use the confidence we have coming off the back of a good win.”

The start is important according to the Thistle number ten and keeping it tight at the back could be the difference.

“The game against Hamilton shows how starting the game well can be important and getting that first goal can make all the difference.

“We got a good clean sheet and defensively that gives us something to build on. If we can keep the clean sheet again then we are half way there.”
