Following the sad death of Ian Cowan on Tuesday, Honorary vice-president, and club historian, Robert Reid leads the tributes from Firhill.
Thistle supporters of a certain age will be saddened to learn of the passing of Ian Cowan, one of the most exciting wingers ever to play for the club. How fondly we remember the forward line of Cowan, Whitelaw, Hainey, Duffy and McParland.
Ian was an integral part of the Thistle team which won 10 First Division matches in a row in season 1962/63 and finished in a very creditable 3rd position.
One remembers a Glasgow Cup tie against Celtic in 1963/64 when Ian had an altercation with Jimmy Johnstone and both players were invited by referee Tiny Wharton to take an early bath!
In all, Ian made 97 appearances and scored 18 goals.
The sincere condolences of everyone at Firhill go out to Ian’s family and friends.
