Lawless keen to put things right

Friday 6th May 2016 at 12:30

Steven Lawless admits the players are determined to go out and make up for the performance and result against Inverness by going out and getting what is needed against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The midfielder knows the players weren’t good enough last weekend and they are ready to put things right.

He said: “We didn’t want to be in this position so close to the end of the season. However everyone knows what we need to do, we need to go out and get a result and we just want to get out there and get what we need.

We know we let ourselves down against Inverness. We know we didn’t perform and we know we need to up our game. We need to improve our tempo and cut out the slackness. We’ve been very tight at the back this year so need to make sure we are again and make sure we take our chances when they come.

While some are panicking after being dragged to within six points of Saturday’s opponents Kilmarnock, Stevie feels things aren’t all doom and gloom

“We’re still in a really good position, we know results have went against us since the split and we don’t want to find ourselves dragged in even further so we know we need to get the result we need, and if we can, we can relax and enjoy the rest of the season. Hopefully when we do that we can look back on what has been a good season, just maybe a bad start and finish has let us down.

“We know we are a good team and we know we can win these games, the result earlier in the season will give us confidence. We know Kilmarnock are a totally different team from then, they have a new manager and are on the back of a good result, so we need to be careful and make sure we do everything correctly.

We put in one of our best performances earlier on in the season at Rugby Park on the astro so we know we can perform on the surface. We played Motherwell at a similar time last season when they were in a similar position and I thought we handled the occasion better and we need to do that on Saturday.

While some will look at the game as a must win tie, Lawless feels the pressure is all on Kilmarnock and he would much rather be in our shoes.

“Some will say the pressure is on but I know in what position I would rather be in so we have to use that to our advantage and make sure we keep the pressure on Kilmarnock.

“The main thing is getting the result but if I can go out and put in a performance and maybe grab a goal too, it will help us along the way to getting those three points.”
